THE KIDS MUSIC PROJECT BY CORAL CREEK
Our mission is to provide access to music education and performance to all kids in Colorado. We provide a variety of programs to schools including live performance events, song-writing workshops and instrument petting zoos as well as a full-year Kindergarten music teaching guide and rhythm kit,
Kindergarten in Colorado is not compulsory and therefore funding for music is nearly non-existent in most schools around the state. The Kids Music Project aims to provide schools with all of the tools and training they need to get kindergarteners immersed in the fundamentals of music. Neuroscience studies show that 4-6 year olds are undergoing neuroplasticity changes that benefit from exposure to music - specifically rhythm. By giving kindergartners access to music training we can help improve their aptitude for math, reading and foreign language comprehension.
WHAT WE PROVIDE:
In collaboration with a board certified music therapist and early childhood educator we have developed a kit for our schools which includes a high quality rhythm instrument kit, music curriculum guide for incorporating music in the classroom as well as to help support weekly music specials classes and a free one hour workshop for teachers / Paras to provide training on the curriculum.
Our mission is to inspire children and support their academic and social development by giving them every opportunity to access music education and performance. With the limited funding for kindergarten music programming in our state we are focusing our efforts on providing resources to this group. After running various performance workshops in the classroom we quickly learned that while exciting for the kids it was challenging to deliver consistent programming that would make a long-term impact and be sustainable over time. Putting the power of music education directly in the hands of the educators is clearly the right approach.
